Tales of Ravenstongue
An Epic Historical Fantasy
At the far end of Holdyr Ness is a strip of land, barely more than shingle and sand. It is bounded on one side by the Nord Sea and the River Hymbra on the other. It is called Ravenstongue...
I was lucky enough to read this book while away on holiday, and it held my attention and desire to read on continuously until I had finished - I've read other books by the author but I think this one "grabbed" me the most. It's a collection of different stories and circumstance, set in and around the area around Spurn Head, and with stories ranging from bird migrations , the sack of Lindisfarne, right up to World War Two and the modern world, held together by encounters with "Silkies" , who lead a dual life on land and sea.
A thoroughly good read from start to finish.
Peter Rand (Musician with the Rock band Môr) -- Review of book on Amazon
Closing out this impressive album is Ravenstongue, based loosely on the book ‘Tales of Ravenstongue’ by the author D. G. Hunt, which Rand read over last summer and was quite taken with it…

The album’s final song is Ravenstongue which is inspired by Peter Rand reading the book Tales of Ravenstongue by D. G. Hunt and is based on the fictitious land Ravenstongue (in reality, Spurn Head in East Yorkshire). The book mixes mythical tales and real events including the battle of Stamford Bridge and the sacking of Lindisfarne. Definitely a song for these times.
